Ah, yes, Gerb, the Kanye moment. How can we apply this to writing? Well, I guess the lesson for anyone in any profession here is to be gracious! Whatever she did or didn’t do on this project, and regardless of the fact that she produced the film, the guy was in the middle of his speech! And Nelsa, that’s a fabulous point! (How did I miss that one?!) The Academy insisted it was cracking down on the ‘laundry list’ speeches this year, but clearly they made an exception for Jeff!

Excellent analysis as always, Bev. And when are Tina and Robert Downey Jr. going to work together? They were fantabulous.

The other thing I learned was editing is everything – I was looking forward to Jeff Bridges acceptance speech (I think he’s a wonderful actor and personality) but it was rambling, too long, and kind of boring. And by thanking everyone in a long, long list it made less impact. Both Mo’niqe and Sandra Bullock did way better.

I didn’t watch the Oscars but I’ve been catching bits and pieces on youtube since Sunday. I’ll have to look for Tina Fey and RDJ’s presentation. They’re two of my favorite people anyway. Good lessons.

I love Sedaris’s title too, Alexa. I see your point about the cougar thing, but really, it’s on!y a rare few writers who have their backlist available forever, so why not try to hook agents/editors/book buyers/consumers with a ‘now’ idea?

Love this post! I think my all-time favorite title is Sedaris’ ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY. I’ve got an idea for a book with cougar in the title…do you think it’s dangerous to include somewhat trendy words that way?
